Career Opportunities for Esthetics Graduates

Licensed estheticians may pursue opportunities in salons, day spas, resort and wellness settings, skin-care studios, and other appearance-enhancement businesses; some professionals become self-employed. Typical work includes evaluating clients’ skin, providing permitted facial and body treatments, removing unwanted hair, applying makeup, recommending products, maintaining sanitary work areas, and educating clients about home care.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of skincare specialists is projected to grow 9% from 2025 to 2035, much faster than the average for all occupations, with about 14,200 openings nationwide each year, on average.

Employment and earnings vary by location, experience, schedule, clientele, and compensation structure. New York applicants must complete a 600-hour approved course of study and pass the state written and practical examinations, along with meeting all other state licensing requirements.

*Please note: Job projections are estimates and do not guarantee employment.

Students gain hands-on experience practicing professional skin care techniques in a supervised training environment.
